Summertime Styling - Are you ready?

October 06 2020 – Jayne Graham

Long days, weekends at the beach, juicy fresh fruit - anyone else feeling excited for summer?!

I don’t know about you, but restyling my home for summer is always exciting. As I put away the throw rugs and dark coloured decor items, it feels like I’m helping summer to come more quickly.

If your home decor is feeling a little out of sync with the weather, I have a few tips that will help you get your rooms feeling summer-ready in no time.

Bright & airy furniture

Summer style is all about embracing the brightness and lightness that summer brings. When it comes to furniture, you can bring summer into any space by choosing pale woods, neutral colours and lighter weight fabrics.

Uniqwa FurnitureUniqwa FurnitureUniqwa Furniture

Uniqwa Furniture has a range of chairs, tables and beds made from pale woods such as french oak and rattan cane. Paired with white and cream fabrics, these are a great choice that will lift the mood of your room.

Also consider designs that feel more open. The 4 poster bed by Uniqwa Furniture has a slender frame that is simple and elegant. The design feels airy and draws the eye upwards, beautifully capturing the spirit of summer.

Summer vibing with art

Playfulness. Adventure. Friends. Whatever summer means to you, art is a great way to introduce those qualities into your home. In fact, the right artwork can transform the whole vibe of a space.

Look for artwork with bright summer colours and textures. Think about incorporating classic summer imagery such as the beach, florals and fruit. Or maybe a scene that has a sense of summer adventure. Need some inspiration? We have a great range of photography and prints that will help tie together your summer vibe.

If you want something to hang on your walls, but can’t find the right artwork, think about hanging a mirror. Mirrors can open up your room and make it feel light and airy. They’re also a great way to capture and enhance all that beautiful summer light.

Smells like summer!

What does summer smell like to you? For me it’s salt, citrus and sun cream. A great way to get ready for warmer days is to curate the scents in your house to complement the smells of summer.

The Commonfolk CollectiveThe Commonfolk CollectiveThe Commonfolk Collective

The fantastic range of candles by The Commonfolk Collective are infused with natural fragrances that will give you over 80 hours of summer bliss. Try the creamy Byron Bay fragrance with almond milk and coconut milk. Or go for the refreshing Hudson Valley fragrance and get beautiful ginger, mint, lemongrass and persian lime smells wafting through your home.

You can also introduce scents in the bathroom with beautiful body washes and lotions. Al.ive Body creates a range of summery scented lotions that feel like bliss on your skin and look stunning on the bathroom benchtop. Some of my favourite scents include coconut and wild orange; kaffir lime and green tea; and fig, apricot and sage.

Lazy days outside

Balmy summer nights, lazy poolside mornings and meals in the garden - I can’t get enough of the outdoors in summer! That’s why I love to create inviting outdoor spaces at home where my family and I can make the most of the warm weather.

Outdoor pieces by Uniqwa Furniture are a great way to make a statement while creating a comfy place to read a book, sip a cocktail or chat with friends. If you’re curating a space for me-time their serengeti and congo design armchairs are perfect. Want a space where people can come together? You’ll love their zulu daybed and outdoor sofas.

If you’re looking for something playful to reflect the spirit of summer, Uniqwa Furniture has a range of unique items that will complement any outdoor area. Their woven hammock, macrame swing and hanging chairs simply scream summer. Add some fun cushions by Pony Rider and you’ll have your own backyard resort.

Decorate with towels!

Towels are the perfect reminder of summer and handy to have accessible if you want to make a quick trip to the beach! Towels are functional, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be used for styling. In fact, they’re a great way to achieve the no-effort but classy look of draped fabric.

Miss April TowelsMiss April Towels

Woven on hand looms, Miss April Towels are one of a kind beauties that add a touch of luxury. Whether you want to add a pop of summery colours or classy cotton textures, they’re a great choice.

Pony Rider towels are so soft and lovely that you can use them as bathroom towels as well as beach towels. They’re lightweight and super quick to dry. Perfect for hanging in your bathroom, throwing over an outdoor armchair or taking with you on all your summer adventures.

Bring summer style with you

Summer styling isn’t limited to your home. You can take stunning pieces with you wherever your summer adventures take you! Beach runs, road trips and picnics in the park are made better with stylish, no-fuss essentials. Think beach umbrellas, turkish towels, comfy throw cushions and pretty pool toys.

Sunday Supply CoSunday Supply Co

Sunday Supply Co. beach umbrellas are my summer favourites because they’re beautifully crafted and will age naturally and gracefully after countless days in the sun. They’re made from natural cotton, varnished wood and custom designed aluminium hinges and hardware. With a range of classy and statement designs, they’re a great way to show off your personal style.

Need something to sit on? Bring the gorgeous Suzie beach chair by McMullin and Co. to the beach or pool. Comfy and stylish, she’s easy to fold up, put in the car and head out with. The range of pool toys by &Sunday are also a great addition to any summer pool party.

The Wanderer trolley by Wandering Sol is the perfect companion for all summer adventures. Made from beautiful bamboo and recycled canvas, the trolley is a stylish way to carry your beach gear or gather your veggies at the local market.

Let’s summon summer with style

I hope you’re just as excited as me to change up your decor in preparation for summer. What new pieces will you introduce?
