Unique Homestays - Providing Plenty of Winter Decor Inspiration

May 12 2020 – Jayne Graham

Cosy fireplaces, warm rugs underfoot and the english countryside - the perfect place to get some winter inspiration.  I have a soft spot for the UK, as I spent time there as a child and returned pre-kids with my husband for 3 years and we had the most amazing time. Whilst we worked hard during the week, we made a special effort to adventure on the weekends and loved to find new Bed and Breakfasts across the country.  Hence I still love finding sources of inspiration through cosy homestays as a reminder of our time, but also to sticky beak and look into the interiors of these unique places and to see how they have styled their homes.

I recently came across this gorgeous website uniquehomestays.com  and had to share with you some of the interiors as they are the perfect place for interior inspiration and the locations across the UK are a MUST to be added to your travel bucket list.  The properties here that I am sharing is only the tip of the iceberg of gorgeous and unique places to stay throughout the UK, you must have a look at the site for all the amazing homestay finds.  So for this blog, I thought I would share a few of my favourites and provide a shop the look section, just in case you felt the urge to create a similar look.

Here we go ...

1. Signal Station in Cornwall UK

Just look at the location. It is a historic maritime station, right up on top of the cliffs which has been converted into a self contained homestay! No one would find you here, unless you told them where you were!

How much fun would it have been styling the interiors of this home!  I would describe the style as English farmhouse with a hint of maritime. The paint colour palette of whites and blues are found throughout, complemented by the light timber & steel materials used as the favoured furniture styling.  GORGEOUS!  Oh and we couldnt forget the marine stripes!  I could imagine reading for days here and listening to the waves as you drift off to sleep.

2. The Orlagh, Cornwall, UK.

This house was the one that first caught my eye as I was scrolling through Instagram!  I have a soft spot for ocean views and panelled wood and fireplaces and hot tubs! I think you can see why I love this one!  Cornwall is a beautful part of England, and the best place to enjoy an english summertime by the beach.

I can picture myself sitting on the outdoor chairs sipping a wine and bathing in the summer sun  - ok it may not be as warm as here, but look at that view. Oh and did I mention the hot tub?  The exposed beams and slate tiled floors add to the charm.  The furnishings are quite eclectic and add a pop of colour and brassy tones to the space.

3. Stella Maris, Malpas Cornwall, UK

Right on the Malpas River in Cornwall, this quintessential english cottage with rustic charm and white decor is not only in a gorgeous location but has an artists studio overlooking the lake, providing an ideal space for inspiration!  Inside the country cottage you find luxurious furniture of white timbers and brass accessories. Please take me here, maybe this artists studio would help me find my creative talent that I am longing to find.  I could easily daydream all day though looking out that window.

4. The Elemental, Scotland, UK

This stunning homestay can be found in a remote part of the Scottish Highlands on the Loch Rannock, I could escape here! A monochrome palette provides a touch of luxury, and there is a hint of natural accents which provides warmth throughout the home.

Cosy is an understatement with this fireplace and view in the living room! The natural floor rug provides a break from the black and white palette, but still blends in seamlessly and would take the chill out of the tiled flooring in the cooler months.

And a view from the dining room, I think it would take me hours to eat any dish served up, I'd be too distracted looking for the Lochness Monster. The monochrome decor continues in this room with a lovely black bench seat cosily covered by a lambskin throw, perfect addition for winter time and wishbone dining chairs to match.

I could keep going, showing you all the spectacular homestays from this site, but it would take me years to go through them all in detail. It does make me want to go travelling again and even though our borders restrict us, I must admit I have had a great time scrolling through them and just day dreaming! I think my next blog will need to be closer to home and I will find my favourite beach shacks to share with you. Maybe when the weather warms up!

I hope you have enjoyed reading through this blog and hope it provides a little inspiration, if not an escape from the everyday for a few minutes.  Jayne xx
